UN Day: Advancing inclusive economic development in South Africa
As we mark UN Day, we reflect on the importance of partnerships and research in driving inclusive economic growth in South Africa. Through the Southern Africa – Towards Inclusive Economic Development (SA-TIED) programme, UNU-WIDER, National Treasury, and the South African Revenue Service are working together to address persistent challenges such as inequality and unemployment.
Watch this video to explore how data-driven research is shaping more inclusive and resilient economic policies.
Highlights from the SA-TIED programme:
Data for inclusion: Leveraging anonymized tax data to gain a more accurate understanding of South Africa’s economy, leading to policies that promote greater economic inclusion.
Research impact: Over 280 research projects contributing to practical solutions for job creation, economic stability, and reducing inequality, in line with SDG 8.
Policy engagement: SA-TIED’s work has informed key policy reforms, including corporate tax restructuring and employment incentives, emphasizing the value of strong partnerships aligned with SDG 17.
